About Us

The origin of the Korean Medical Association of Georgia is lost to the winds of time. The organization started in the 1970’s when Korean physicians who had settled in Georgia decided to get together for fellowship, camaraderie and support. These meetings provided them a place and time to share their stories in their native language and to network and support each other. Since that time, the KMA of Georgia has grown and now includes multiple generations of Korean physicians, including many second generation Koreans. The language now used is mostly English, but the same fellowship, camaraderie and support still exists today.

Besides the fellowship, KMA of Georgia is also involved with mentoring medical students and performing community service to reach out to the Korean community. There are three main meetings a year, one in the spring, the fall and during the holidays. Members are welcome to participate as much or as little as they desire. For some, this organization is a way to become more involved in the community. For others, a way to pay it forward and mentor the next generation of physicians. And for many, just a place to spend time with like-minded individuals and enjoy their company and fellowship.

The first known KMA President was Dr. Hyun Hahk Kim, pediatric surgeon in 1979.
